Get to know Alcalá de Guadaíra

Alcalá de Guadaíra is a municipality in the province of Seville, in the Los Alcores comarca. As Seville has grown, the town has become one of its suburbs. It was once called Alcalá de los Panaderos, Alcalá of the Bakers, because it baked most of Seville's bread.

The castle dates back to the Almohads and was later rebuilt by the Castilians. Fortified mills from the Moorish period still stand by the river, and its banks are protected as the Riberas del Guadaíra natural monument, with the Oromana park and pine wood. The Gandul archaeological site also lies within the municipality.
