Get to know A Limia

A Limia is a comarca in the province of Ourense, Galicia, named after the Limia river and bordering the Portuguese district of Vila Real to the south. Most of it lies in a broad, flat-bottomed basin that once held the Antela lagoon, drained from 1958, with the Sierra de Laroco to the south. It is the most important area of extensive farming in Galicia, known for cereals and potatoes with designation of origin.

Xinzo de Limia is home to a large share of the people and, with Sandianes, has the largest potato fields. The Coren cooperative complex stands in Sarreaus and Porquera. Trasmiras, Vilar de Barrio, Rairiz de Veiga and Baltar, up in the hills, complete the comarca.
